ABC School
In the heart of Florence, the ABC Center offers students the opportunity to participate in language, art and culture courses. For many years we have carried out research in the field of linguistics and didactics according to the Direct Teaching Method as well as various existing trends in didactics. The aim of the teaching method is oral and written communication, and to achieve this there is a maximum of ten students per class. This makes accurate and precise teaching possible where the students learn quickly and thoroughly. Two teachers lecture standard and intensive courses offering the students the opportunity of hearing different accents. The lessons and seminars take place exclusively in Italian. In order to place the students accurately in a class, there is an oral and a written test first.

Centro Fiorenza
Founded in 1982, Centro Fiorenza has its premises right in the centre of the historic city, in a prestigious seventeenth century palace. The medium size of the school, 120-130 students during the peak months with each class limited to 12 students, permits our teaching staff a personalized rapport with each student and offers the opportunity, even for beginners, to acquire in a short time a clear grasp of the language necessary to face all situations of daily-life. One of the school's main characteristics, much appreciated by our students, is a friendly atmosphere established from the first day with a "welcome party" for students, teachers and management staff. Students at Centro Fiorenza do not feel like "foreign tourists", but part of a lively international family.

Centro Lingua Italiana Calvino
CLIC Centro Lingua Italiana Calvino since 1987 has been offering Italian courses for international students in Florence, throughout the year. Students have the option of attending class either 2, 4 or 6 hours per day, Mondays through Fridays, in small groups and at 8 different language levels. For a good part of your active day, Italian will become your main language, and this - thanks to our method - happens in an absolutely "painless" manner. The Intensive course consists of extra practice in the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing with emphasis on practical communication activities. Centro Machiavelli
The Centro Machiavelli was founded as a cooperative of teachers in 1978 in order to provide an adequate response to a growing world-wide interest in Italian language and culture. Ever alert to the country's linguistic and cultural developments, the Centro Machiavelli constitutes a constant reference point for students seeking to acquire not only linguistic competence, but also the skills necessary for a full understanding of the complex and ever-changing Italian society. Apart from grammar and syntax, we believe that there are four skills - reading, writing, listening and speaking - which need to be studied and developed right from the first level, to achieve understanding and expression in authentic communicative situations. The school is in Piazza Santo Spirito itself, and with its bars and out-door cafes, its daily market, workshops and restaurants, it is a favourite haunt of Florentines and thus provides our students with an excellent opportunity to meet them.

Istituto Italiano
The Istituto Italiano is the ideal reference point for those who want to start or continue studying the Italian language and culture. The Institute's teaching method is based on the directives of the Modern Languages Project of the Council of Europe. Every class has two teachers, each of whom has a specific teaching role. This allows the students to hear and become accustomed to different voice inflections. The teachers use various methods that enable the students to learn all the nuances of the language without the stilted phrases that are so far from the modern, spoken language. The Institute's teaching methods call for the use of text books supplemented by other materials: leaflets, carefully selected audio-visual aids and a wide range of "original" texts. This material, the fruit of years of experience acquired by the teachers and the educational director, is continuously enriched and updated.

Societa Dante Alighieri
The Societa Dante Alighieri, founded in 1889, is the oldest Italian association for teaching the Italian language to foreigners, and has done this ever since its founding. The teaching method used is based on the direct relationship between teacher and student. The methodological approach thus takes into account the student's origins and his basic cultural preparation. Traditional teaching material is backed up by the reading of original texts aimed at the class's requirements and, whenever possible, at the needs of the individual student. Initially, the courses, which are based on the inductive method and are conducted totally in Italian, are aimed at providing the student with the necessary means for overcoming the first difficult logistics in a foreign country.
