International Dialing Codes
To place phone calls to another country, there are certain prefixes that must be used in order to make the call. Listed in a table below are the Country Codes and International Direct Dialing prefixes for all countries around the world, which are necessary to make any international call.
Country Code (CC)
The Country Code is the prefix that is used when phoning to a country from another country; in that sense it is like an international area code.
International Direct Dialing Prefix (IDD)
The International Direct Dialing prefix (IDD) is the prefix needed to make a call from a country to another country; in that sense, it is like a long distance dialing prefix that you put before the area code. In general, you will also have to provide the country code for the country you are calling, just as when making a long distance call you have to put in the area code after the long distance prefix.
One wrinkle is that if you are calling to countries or territories that use the same country code as the country you are calling from, you will not need to use the IDD prefix. For instance, the United States, Canada, and many Caribbean Islands share the country code 1, and calls made between these areas are regular long-distance calls and not international calls. Another problem is that the IDD prefixes are still in a state of evolution, so there may be changes that are not reflected in this list.
Using The Codes
To use these, you must first provide the IDD prefix for the country you are dialing from, then the Country Code (CC) for the country you are dialing to, and then the full phone number that you are trying to reach in that country. Remember that if the country has area codes, you must also include that before the local phone number. For instance, if you are dialing from the United States to Cameroon:
IDD CC
011 - 237 - area code - phone number
