The course opens with explanations in English with some Spanish mixed in. You will see simple scenes such as an introduction between a newly arrived visitor and his Spanish speaking colleague. The speech is broken into small, understandable segments, with the words appearing on the screen. After the scene is finished it is presented again with the student having a chance to speak the Spanish words before the actors do. This feature is great as the visual cues really help with retention of the vocabulary. This course entertains and teaches through a fantastic combination of video and audio. Written grammar and culture points are mixed into the video. You are encouraged to practice on grammar and vocabulary by using the included workbooks. I get further reinforcement by using the included audio cassettes in the tape recorder when I drive, fly, work at my desk, etc. This course is an excellent value since many video courses cost much more while offering less content. And most tape courses fall short of a full learning experience because they lack the total audio-visual experience of video. For any student up to a very advanced level I recommend this as the basic course you should use to achieve a level of fluency that will allow you to feel comfortable when you are in a Spanish-speaking environment.
