In the last 10 years, The Language Club has been teaching Portuguese to English, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, German, Swedish, Danish and French speaking people in elementary, intermediate and advanced levels. Here, at The Language Club you can count on skilled and commited teachers, friendly staff and a lush, pleasant atmosphere. The Language Club adopts a communicative methodology. The courses are very interactive and grammar and vocabulary are learned in context. Class dynamics makes use of simulation activities encouraging students' language practice. Overseas Language Center
Overseas was conceived in 2004, and established in March 2005, after we noticed an increasing demand for professionals who speak a foreign language in the current labour market. It was meant as an innovation in language instruction, witht the transmission of knowledge of a foreign language without the traditionalism of normal courses. Currently, the Center is teaching two language course series, Portuguese for Foreigners and English for Speakers of Other Languages. Overseas is a family establishment, created during a family reunion, where the father, daughter, and a good friend of the family, all teachers of English and Portuguese, were musing about their experiences on teaching and the methodologies used in normal courses. There and then, we came up with the idea of having a place where teaching a language could be free of the conventional patterns so common nowadays and still be effective. After a couple of months our idea was put into practice.

S&K is a bicultural community center and thereby an experimental implementation of Stephen Krashen's Natural Approach and acquisition theory. As such, we do not follow any specific plan or course of lessons, but promote language and culture exchange in communicative activities. We emphasize language acquisition through communication rather than language learning through the study of grammar. For those interested in a more linguistically structured program, we offer an intensive course of private lessons. Classes include conversation, grammar, and pronunciation. In the pronunciation classes, the student will be introduced to Portuguese phonology compared to English phonology. Emphasis will be placed on the pronunciation of nasal vowels and syllable-timed rhythm. The grammar classes will present the differences between English and Portuguese in verb conjugation and sentence formation, including subjectless sentences, double negative words, adjective gender and number, false cognates, lexical ambiguity, etc.
