Amharic is the national language of Ethiopia, in eastern Africa. Many anthropologists believe that Ethiopia is the site of human origin and therefore language itself, with evidence of language predating 7000 BC. About 29 million people speak Amharic. It is the language of the government and is taught in schools. Approximately 30% of the people speak Amharic as a first language, and an additional 20% use Amharic as a second language. Another widely spoken language is Tigrinya - http://www.multilingualbooks.com/tigrini.html.
Amharic is a wonderful language to learn because the culture of Ethiopia is as deep and diverse as Africa itself. "Ethiopia is the oldest independent country in Africa, and the three main colors of her flag were so often adopted by other African countries upon independence that they became known as the pan-African colors." - CIA World Factbook. We carry the acclaimed Foreign Service Institute FSI course We also carry other languages from Africa (including Hausa, Twi and Igbo). Delve into it and see! Our web page for Amharic is: http://multilingualbooks.com/amharic.html
DariDari (sometimes called Farsi-Kabuli), together with Pashto, is one of the two official languages of Afghanistan. Dari is the Afghan dialect of Farsi (Persian). It is written in a modified Arabic alphabet, and it borrows from many Arabic and Persian words.
Approximately one-third of the population of Afghanistan speaks Dari - that is about four million people. It serves as the main means of communication between speakers of the different languages in Afghanistan.
At the beginning of this century, Dari was the language of the aristocracy and few common people understood it. When Afghanistan became a republic in the early 1900's, Dari became more prominent in the government and in the culture.
